Photobiomodulation (PBM)
Photobiomodulation (PBM) Therapy, formerly known as Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT), utilizes low-level red or near-infrared light to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling while accelerating the healing and regeneration of tissue.
It has been found that when a laser is focused onto tissues at lower power levels it has a biostimulation effect that results in positive effects on the tissue.
PBM is a noninvasive, nonthermal, and nonsurgical procedure used in dentistry for numerous applications including the management of temporomandibular disorders (TMJ, TMD or jaw joint pain), treatment of canker sores and fever blisters, and the reduction of pain and swelling following surgery.
