having a hard time chewing
Fillings
After a decayed tooth is cleaned and sanitized, filling material is used to seal off the space. If the tooth is too weak to support regular fillings, inlays or onlays are used. Inlays and onlays are custom fillings that are shaped to fit the tooth perfectly. Dr. Smith offers white fillings, glass ionomer fillings, amalgam, and cast gold fillings.
Crowns
When damage is so severe that even inlays/onlays cannot restore the structure, dental crowns are recommended. Crowns are full-coverage caps that encase the entire tooth. Crowns are made from tooth-colored porcelain, gold or porcelain-fused-to-metal. Crowns hold a broken tooth together, restore a tooth after root canal therapy, cover dental implants, and secure dental bridges.
Bridges
A bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth. A typical bridge consists of three dental crowns: two crowns capped over teeth on either side of the space and one crown that serves as the replacement tooth.
Dentures and Partials
Dentures replace one or several missing teeth. They can be partial (this is used if you have some teeth remaining) or complete (this is used if all of your teeth are gone).
Dental Implant Restoration
Your dentist in Prairie Village, KS also restores dental implants. Implants bring back almost 100% of your chewing ability and provide the best stability.
